Healthy Homemade Twix

Hi, friends! It has been two weeks too long since our last post, so we had to get a little wild with this week’s recipe. Due to (tragic) recent developments (a food allergy test) A Healthy Hint is officially fully gluten free, as both Amanda and Christina are allergic to wheat. We always joke that we are the same person, and it appears that our bodies have decided to make that a full reality. That said, this week’s recipe is not only delicious, but highlights one of our favorite gluten free flours. We present to you: Healthy Homemade Twix. Yes, candy lovers, you read that right.

The key ingredient for this recipe is: Coconut Flour

Here’s why we care about this recipe:

  • Coconut flour is a great baking alternative for those who have a gluten allergy. Roughly 18 million Americans have a gluten allergy, us included, and we are always looking for new treats for those who have to cut it out of their diet. You can read more about gluten here.
  • Coconut flour is also low in carbohydrates, so if you are looking for a lower carb option, even if you are not gluten free, this is a great alternative for you! 1/4 cup has only 6 net carbs! Keto dieters, rejoice.
  • It is also high in fiber, containing 10 grams of fiber for every 1/4 cup. It actually contains 5x more fiber than wheat flour! This means it is taking care of your digestive health as you eat it, ensuring that you feel full longer, and keep your gut health in check.
  • Coconut flour also contains a large mix of healthy vitamins and minerals. These include manganese, potassium, calcium and phosphorus, which have been shown to remove toxins from our bodies. To boot, it also provides 18 different types of amino acids! Amino acids are essentially the building blocks on which proteins are created, and they prevent overall human health.
  • Coconut flour is also rich in healthy fats, which have strong antibacterial and antiviral properties.
