Buffalo Chicken Burgers

We are huge sauce people. We have excessive amounts of different sauces on hand at all times, ranging for sweet to salty to spicy. As you know, we are meal preppers which means that we eat similar things throughout the week.

We wanted to recommend our top 10 staple sauces to have on hand! We use these to cook and marinate with, and throw on top of our meals.

A Healthy Hint’s Top Sauces:

  1. Ketchup: Honestly, ketchup is good on everything. Some may disagree, but I even throw it on rice, and it’s delicious. Look for a no sugar added ketchup bottle.
  2. Coconut aminos: This is a soy sauce alternative, and is gluten free of course. It won’t wreck your stomach and has a great salty taste.
  3. Frank’s Red Hot: This is a staple for sure, because it takes any meat or veggie to the next level.
  4. Yogurt Dressing: We opt for greek yogurt dressings to add a lot of flavor to salads using a low-fat alternative to creamy dressings.
  5. Seasoned Rice Wine Vinegar: We love to throw this on a bed of greens or edamame to add some zest in a low calorie, light way.
  6. Dijon Mustard: This is a favorite for us when we make salmon. We whip up a lemon sauce and add dijon mustard to it to really bring out the flavor.
  7. Pesto: One of our favorite hacks is to add 1/3 cup of pesto to ground meat and cook it on the stove top as a meal prepped protein. It is so flavorful!
  8. Sriracha: Do we need to really explain this one? This works for anything- meats, veggies, and grains.
  9. Barbecue Sauce: We like to make gluten free pizzas, using Bob’s Red Mill crust. We always look for a low sugar barbeque sauce, as many of them are loaded with added sugar.
  10. Cholula: We keep this in our rotation every week. It is great with breakfast foods, like avocado toast or eggs.

Buffalo Chicken Burgers

Servings: 4
Calories: 200kcal

Ingredients

  • 1 pound ground chicken
  • 1/4 cup shallots, finely chopped (approximately 1 shallot)
  • 1/2 cup red onion, finely chopped (approximately 1/2 medium onion)
  • 1/4 cup shredded carrots
  • 1 egg
  • 1/4 cup buffalo wing sauce
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon pepper

Instructions

  • Preheat a grill or grill pan to medium heat.
  • In a large bowl, mix together chicken, shallots, onion and carrots until fully combined. Add in the egg, buffalo wing sauce, garlic powder, salt and pepper. Mix well and form into four patties.
  • Grill the burgers until fully cooked, about 5-7 minutes per side.
