About A Healthy Hint

Two food lovers sharing their love of nutrition through ingredient focused recipes and healthy hints

Go To Snacks: Protein Bar Edition

We are coming at you this week with a Protein Bar review! Yay for snacks! We eat a protein bar literally every day of our lives, and consider ourselves to be pretty much experts when it comes to them. Below is our honest review of different bars, and the bars we enjoy most! There are three things we look for when choosing a bar: low sugar, high protein, and quality ingredients. We have not been paid for any of these reviews, and this post truly reflects our thoughts on each of these products. Continue reading

Slow Cooker Chipotle Shredded Chicken

Here’s a little brain teaser for you: what are two things we love deary and do everything in our power to seek? Convenience, and chipotle sauce. Seriously, we are all about convenient recipes. Having easy recipes ensures we can constantly switch up our meal prep, yet ensures we actually stick to a healthy eating routine. As an added bonus, we love when something is versatile, so we do not get tired of eating it throughout the week.

Healthy Homemade Twix

Hi, friends! It has been two weeks too long since our last post, so we had to get a little wild with this week’s recipe. Due to (tragic) recent developments (a food allergy test) A Healthy Hint is officially fully gluten free, as both Amanda and Christina are allergic to wheat. We always joke that we are the same person, and it appears that our bodies have decided to make that a full reality. That said, this week’s recipe is not only delicious, but highlights one of our favorite gluten free flours. We present to you: Healthy Homemade Twix. Yes, candy lovers, you read that right.  Continue reading

High Fiber Overnight Hemp Hearts

What the HECK is a hemp heart? We found ourselves asking this very question after seeing this ingredient online, and figured it was a distinct possibility that other people were asking this same question. We also felt like creating an “overnight oat” recipe without the oats, for those watching their carb intake. These two thoughts combined allowed us to create this unique recipe, and we can’t wait to hear your thoughts on it! Continue reading

Paleo Chicken Tenders

Chicken nugget lovers, REJOICE. It’s no secret that we love food, and when that food is a childhood staple like a nug, we can’t help but love those, too. Did any one ever eat a Dino Chicken Nugget as a kid? The 90s moms we knew definitely had a box of these in the freezer at all times. There is something so satisfying about nuggets, but when it comes to their nutritional value, they are a little less appealing considering they are usually deep fried and made of processed ingredients. Not to worry– we are serving up a paleo chicken tender made from real ingredients while still being incredibly delicious and satisfying.

Gluten Free Lemon Ice Cream Bars

When it comes to the dessert category, which we both consider ourselves to be professionals in, we are normally drawn to any sort of chocolatey treat. But with that being said, there are rarely any desserts we turn down. We grew up thinking lemon bars were a more sophisticated dessert that only adults enjoy. Well, now that we are “adults” we have found ourselves to really enjoy them! There is something to be said about the sour and sweet combination that hits taste buds that we didn’t even know existed. We decided to take the sophistication of a classic lemon bar and combined it with a child-like ice cream bar to create Gluten Free Lemon Ice Cream Bars. Let us tell you, these are unlike any lemon bar you have ever had!

Baked Peanut Butter Banana Oatmeal

Arizona Winters are funny. It drops below 60 degrees, and people lose their minds. One of our friends had three different jacket types in her car this weekend to prepare for these extreme temperatures. These cold, bleary winter mornings (laugh it up, Midwesterns) are the perfect time to create something delicious and hearty for breakfast. If you made our Egg White Cups, you know we love to have a lot of variety when it comes to our breakfasts, since we prep everything to keep things easy. This recipe contains everything we love– peanut butter, bananas, and carbs. As an added bonus, it contains complex carbohydrates and healthy fat to keep you full and energized all day without being a sugar bomb.   Continue reading
