Savory Spiced Nuts

If sweets aren’t your thing, we want to make one thing clear: we do not understand you. However, we do want to still cater to your tastes, and bring you a holiday snack with a savoy twist. This recipe can also be whatever your heart desires. If you want to use all almonds in this recipe, go crazy. If you want to use all cashews and 4 or 5 little runty peanuts, have at it. Healthy Hot Chocolate

One thing that just feels like Christmas in a cup is hot coco. There is something incredibly comforting and nostalgic about it, and we can’t get enough this time of year. We thought we would try a recipe that allows us to have more than just one cup of this creamy drink by cutting back on the sugar and fat that the Starbucks version has, or the Swiss Miss instant pack. One thing that was mildly disturbing as we researched this blog post was seeing that Starbucks has their hot chocolate under the “Kids Drinks” section. This is not a Starbucks bash, and we are the first to admit we go almost daily, but consider rethinking giving your child 43 grams of sugar in a grande cup of coco while you’re making your next coffee run. Or just simply make the kids this recipe instead. Yes– let’s go with that option.

Pecan Pumpkin Pie Bars

A true coming of age sign is when you learn that you love nuts in dessert. They give extra texture, they add more flavor, and they make every bite a little more delicious. It took us 20-something years to learn this lesson, but we are so glad we finally appreciate a more sophisticated take on treats. Pecans in particular are the official nut of the season. Obviously we are about to educate you on why that is, and then give you a delicious recipe to try– just in time for Thanksgiving! Prepare to woo your mother-in-law, the hard-to-please granny, and -of course- yourself with these delicious bars.

This recipe is a perfect ‘healthier alternative’ option for anyone looking to cut down on refined sugar while still treating yourself to something delicious. Not to mention, our stomachs are thrilled since these are gluten free and dairy free, while simultaneously tasting like heaven. No seriously– we made three batches this week alone.

Banana Chia Seed Pudding

Chia seeds are one of our favorite add-ins for a lot of our recipes, since they can be sprinkled on top, blended in, or mixed in for texture to almost any recipe, and the bland flavor of the seeds won’t impact the overall taste of the meal. Our advice to you is always keep a floss stick nearby since these tiny seeds always manage to get wedged in between your teeth, but we can’t stop-won’t stop using them in our recipes for all the health benefits they yield. They are a superfood, meaning they pack a ton of health benefits, and the more we can incorporate a superfood into our meal, the better!

Roasted Beet Hummus

Are we the only ones who associate beets with The Office every single time? Dwight K. Schrute was really onto something with the beet farm. Beets can brighten up a dish with a splash of color, and while Christina is not a big beet fan, I cannot get enough of them! The earthy flavor reminds us of summertime and we were pretty surprised at the seemingly limitless positive side effects that beets seem to offer.
